The description of Critical Ops

Counter-Strike: that’s the first thing that comes to mind when you pick up Critical Ops to play. Though it replicates the original PC game in a number of ways, Critical Ops makes a great attempt at creating its universe, and also introduces awesome gameplay mechanics that are rare for mobile FPS games.

Gameplay

Critical Ops is a multiplayer FPS game just coming out of alpha and beta testing. You play as part of two opposing teams (i.e., The Breach and The Coalition) and have four game modes, i.e., Defuse, Ranked Defuse, Gun Game, and Team Deathmatch. While this is similar to Counter-Strike in many respects, what makes the game totally stand out is the number of customization options available. Unlike shooter games where enemies respawn once killed or where the player has a health bar that can be replenished, Critical Ops has none of that. All players start out with the same loadout, i.e., a pistol and 800 gold currency. Kills earn you points which you can use to purchase new weapons and equipment, including new skins which do not affect gameplay.

Super cool addition to the beta is in-game chat and social feature.

Visuals

Critical Ops doesn’t have graphics which would win any awards, but it covers the basics well, and no lag would be expected from such an action game on mobile. On iOS especially the visuals are clear, and the entire scheme, though lacking in color is quite detailed. You won’t see too many over-the-top visual effects, but the combat sequences are as close to reality as you can imagine them: kill with just a bullet or two and not too many explosions.

Controls

Critical Ops has customizable controls which are probably the best part about the game. You can increase the reticle and aim in both vertical and horizontal orientations. The center of the playing screen is left for playing while on the sides are menu buttons and actions buttons such as firing, loading, and movement and changing weapons. The entire control system feels quite intuitive.

Good
Critical Ops is such a well-balanced game (zero play-to-win) that’s quite unexpected for a free-to-play mobile game. You can play with different weapon classes and also go into custom matches. The game deviates from the traditional formula of mobile shooter games, and you can’t help but feel a bit closer to reality with some of the gameplay mechanics such as zero health regeneration, loading or switching of weapons. Critical Ops isn’t the best shooter game, but is certainly one of the ones done better.
